There are many resources available to the luthier and repair person. One of the best resources is the people who have built and repaired instruments. The organizations and forums listed below are a few ways to locate builders with years of experience. This is a great first stop. Check them out. After you have explored the forums, take a look at the websites listed in the left side panel. The members of the New England Lutiers have used all these sites.
Organizations
- Acoustic Guitar Magazine Discussion Forum The forum hosted by Acoustic Guitar Magazine. The top names in the industry moderate the forum. Ask Frank Ford a question on guitar repair!
- ASIA The Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (ASIA) was established in 1988 to help provide a sense of community and professionalism to the field of stringed instrument making and repair.
- GAL The Guild of American Luthiers is a non-profit educational membership organization, formed in 1972 to advance the craft of string instrument making and repair
- MIMF We invite you to participate on the Musical Instrument Makers Forum, an interactive forum for the discussion of musical instrument construction, design and repair
